The University of Notre Dame, the Archdiocese of New York and 41 other Roman Catholic institutions sued the Obama administration in federal court Monday, the latest push against a requirement in the health-care-overhaul law that employers cover contraception in workers’ health plans.
The Obama administration said Friday it wouldn’t implement a long-term care insurance program that is part of the 2010 health overhaul, its first major reversal on its signature domestic achievement.
A federal appeals court upheld President Barack Obama’s health care overhaul, rejecting arguments that it violates the Constitution by requiring Americans either to buy insurance or pay a penalty.“Not every intrusive law is an unconstitutionally intrusive law,” said Jeffrey Sutton, the first Republican- appointed judge to back the law in litigation across the country.
